Hyakuninchō's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Hyakuninchō

I spent a week wandering Hyakuninchō, getting utterly lost in its maze of tiny streets. It's gorgeous, all old wooden houses and little shops tucked away. I found amazing ramen places, but I kept… more

Wow, that sounds incredible! Hyakunincho is seriously atmospheric. Those narrow alleyways... yeah, they're a bit of a mystery, aren't they? A lot of them are just old residential routes, remnants of a time before wider roads were common. Think of them as the city's veins, slowly fading but still carrying a pulse. But some? Those could be anything. Old smuggling routes, perhaps? Secret passages used by the yakuza back in the day? Or maybe just places that were forgotten, left behind as the city expanded. There's no central record for all of them; it's a case of discovering their history one alley at a time. Old maps might offer clues, though those are hard to find. Talking to some of the longer-term residents in the area, the ones who've lived there for generations – they might have family stories or local legends. Good luck on your next exploration! You should def share pics if you find anything really cool.

Hyakuninchō Haunting?

fmd_good Hyakuninchō

Nah, Hyakuninchō isn't some haunted ghost town. It's just...quiet. Really quiet. Think less "eerie" and more "peaceful, slightly forgotten." The canal area is lovely for a stroll, though. You'll see more cats than people, probably. I spent a week there sketching – hardly saw a soul. The low population density is accurate; it's not exactly bustling. But creepy? Not really my experience. Maybe those online forums are overhyping it for clicks. Enjoy the canals though, seriously beautiful in the evening light.
