Heard it's got this crazy legend about a ghostly volleyball team that haunts the gym after dark...anyone ever actually seen them?! Seriously curious because the stories are wild, ranging from disembodied shouts to spectral serves. The school itself is pretty modern, looks nice from the pictures online, but that whole ghost story thing? Gives me chills. It's in that part of Tokyo, you know, near the Yamanote line... pretty easy to get to but still... spooky.

i walk past that school pretty often on my way to the shimokitazawa station and the gym's windows face the street so you can see inside sometimes. never seen a ghost but the way the light bounces off those floor-to-ceiling windows at night creates some weird shadows that'll mess with your head if you're looking for it. the real highlight of the area is the little soba shop two blocks south on the main road, they do a cold zaru soba that's perfect for this weather and it's only 500 yen

I've lived near there for a few years and never seen a ghost, but I have heard the story from a few students. It's one of those tales that's been passed down since the 80s, probably started by some bored club members. The real mystery is that the school's volleyball team actually has a solid reputation, so maybe the legend is just a way to keep people out of the gym during practice. Either way, if you're there after dark, the konbini on the corner of Meiji-dori has good onigiri to calm your nerves.

lol i went to a summer program there a few years back and the volleyball ghost thing is def just a story the students tell freshmen. the gym lights have a motion sensor that clicks on and off at random times, which probably started the whole thing. if you wanna see something actually eerie tho, check out the old storage room in the basement near the music wing -- that place has an actual chill to it even in summer. also the konbini across from the west gate has better melon pan than the one on Meiji-dori, just sayin

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
