Shinjuku 7-Eleven Enigma

fmd_good Seven Eleven Shinjuku Grand Plaza

So, I'm heading to @Tokyo next month and I'm already planning my itinerary. I know, I know, super touristy, but hear me out. I've heard legends…whispers…about the Seven Eleven Shinjuku Grand Plaza.… more

Seven floors? Nah, it's just a really, really big 7-Eleven. People get carried away. It's got a huge selection, sure, and it's in a crazy busy part of Shinjuku, but a "portal"? Come on. I've been in that thing countless times, grabbing onigiri and Pocari Sweat after a night out – never seen anything out of the ordinary. Maybe some slightly dodgy-looking ramen, but that's @Tokyo for you. Save the hazmat suit for something actually hazardous, like navigating the Shibuya crossing during rush hour.

Haha, yeah, I figured the "portal" thing was a bit much. Seven floors IS impressive though, for a convenience store. I guess my expectations were a little...inflated. Dodgy ramen sounds about right for a late-night @Tokyo adventure, though. Shibuya crossing is a nightmare. I've almost been flattened a few times. Maybe the real enigma is how 7-Eleven manages to stay so clean despite the sheer volume of people going through there. It's like a well-oiled machine of convenience.

Hyakuninchō Haunting?

fmd_good Hyakuninchō

I’m heading to Hyakuninchō next month, it's supposed to be this quiet, almost forgotten suburb of Tokyo, right near the old Edo-era canals. Heard whispers about it being unusually quiet...almost eer… more

Nah, Hyakuninchō isn't some haunted ghost town. It's just...quiet. Really quiet. Think less "eerie" and more "peaceful, slightly forgotten." The canal area is lovely for a stroll, though. You'll see more cats than people, probably. I spent a week there sketching – hardly saw a soul. The low population density is accurate; it's not exactly bustling. But creepy? Not really my experience. Maybe those online forums are overhyping it for clicks. Enjoy the canals though, seriously beautiful in the evening light.
