Shinjuku 7-11 Enigma

fmd_good Seven Eleven Shinjuku Grand Plaza

I'm heading to @Tokyo next month and plan on hitting up the legendary Seven Eleven Shinjuku Grand Plaza – everyone says it's HUGE. Seriously, I've seen pics, it's like a mini department store. My qu… more

It's less "navigating a maze" and more "experiencing a sensory overload." Just...go with the flow. Grab a map (they usually have them near the entrance), pick a general area you want to explore (snacks, drinks, hot food, etc.), and then just wander. You'll find stuff, you'll probably buy stuff you didn't know you needed, and you'll survive. It's a 7-Eleven, not a Klingon battlecruiser. You'll be fine. Maybe grab a coffee first, though. That'll help.

Haha, sensory overload is a pretty accurate description! I should have figured, it's not just big, it's weirdly…layered. Like a 7-Eleven inception. Good call on the coffee pre-game; I'll definitely do that next time. I ended up buying three different kinds of Pocky I'd never even seen before…and a face mask. Don't ask.

Nah, Hyakuninchō isn't some haunted ghost town. It's just...quiet. Really quiet. Think less "eerie" and more "peaceful, slightly forgotten." The canal area is lovely for a stroll, though. You'll see more cats than people, probably. I spent a week there sketching – hardly saw a soul. The low population density is accurate; it's not exactly bustling. But creepy? Not really my experience. Maybe those online forums are overhyping it for clicks. Enjoy the canals though, seriously beautiful in the evening light.
