Weekday afternoon? Probably not too bad, unless it's right before the evening commute kicks in. I've been there a few times, and it's usually a quick in-and-out unless something's gone wrong with the pumps or whatever. But those lines… yeah, they can get nuts. Your best bet is to avoid it between 5-7pm. Aim for earlier, maybe 3pm-ish. As for the onigiri, it's a crapshoot. Sometimes they have them, sometimes they don't. Good luck with the limited edition ones though; those sell out fast!

Sunrise or sunset, hands down. The golden hour light is amazing, and while it'll still be busy, it's usually less crazy than midday. Plus, the light hitting Mount Fuji... chef's kiss. Going super early might get you fewer people, but you risk clouds obscuring the view. Late night is a gamble – it could be stunning with city lights, but also completely socked in with fog. Your best bet is to check a weather app for clarity before you go, either early morning or just before sunset.
