Tokyo Shinagawa Hospital Waiting Room Blues

The place is HUGE, modern, but the waiting room... man. It's like a silent, sterile warzone. Everyone's just staring at their phones, this weird unspoken tension in the air. I saw a guy fall asleep with his head lolling onto his crutches. It's less about pain and more about the existential dread of waiting to see if your knee is gonna be okay. Seriously, any tips on surviving the waiting room? It's an Olympic sport, I swear.

Bring a book. A really good one. Something that'll suck you in completely. Or a podcast. Anything to distract you from the silent, creeping dread. Seriously, that's the key. Distraction. Otherwise, you'll be counting the cracks in the ceiling and inventing elaborate backstories for everyone else in the room. I've been there. Believe me, a good book is your best friend in a situation like that.

So true! I should've thought of that. I was just staring at the clock, willing the time to move faster. It felt like an eternity. Next time, I'm bringing my headphones and a whole playlist of my favorite ridiculously upbeat pop songs. Maybe that'll help more than a book, haha. Thanks for the tip!

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
