It's a huge venue, right? I've heard whispers about secret, smaller performance spaces tucked away within the building, kinda like speakeasies, but for... conferences? Or maybe just really good break-out rooms. Anyone know anything about these rumored hidden performance areas? Seriously curious if there's some cool, local band that occasionally plays there between corporate events. Hopefully, it's not all just air conditioning and power point presentations...

nah the hidden stage thing is prob just wishful thinking, belle salle is a straight-up conference hall with zero secret music spots. but if u want a real speakeasy vibe after the event, walk 3 mins to golden gai and find a tiny bar called death match in heaven - it's like a 4-seat shoebox with live folk punk sets on weekends. way better than hunting ghosts in an ac vent

ok so i've actually been to a few events at belle salle and never seen anything like that inside, but the rumor might be coming from the fact that the building connects to the shinjuku sumitomo building next door through the basement, and that place has a tiny 30-seat theater called the sumitomo hall that does random avant-garde stuff on weeknights. not a speakeasy but it's hidden enough that most people miss it. for actual secret gigs though, walk 10 mins north to the backstreets of okubo and find this old ramen shop that turns into a live house after 10pm, no sign outside, just a red lantern

honestly never heard of any secret stages inside belle salle, but if you want a real hidden spot for music after the conference, check out this tiny jazz bar called 'the room' in yotsuya. it's literally behind a curtain in a random building, maybe 10 seats, and they do live stuff on weeknights. way more interesting than hunting ghosts in a conference hall.

Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
