Heard it's a bit... vibrant, being right in Kabukicho. Anyone stayed there who can tell me what the noise level's like at night? Seriously considering earplugs, but hoping it's not a constant party all night. Don't wanna miss out on exploring the area, but a good night's sleep is also key. Got my itinerary mostly planned, but this is the one thing messing with my zen before the trip...

from what i've seen, the real sleep killer there isn't the street noise but the thin walls inside the hotel itself. i heard someone's tv through the wall at 2am when i stayed nearby. if you're on a budget, grab a pair of the mack's silicone earplugs at the donki on yasukuni-dori, they block more than foam and don't hurt after a few hours. the area's worth the trade-off for the ramen at ichiran two blocks south, just don't expect silence until after 4am

I've stayed at that exact Toyoko Inn. The noise is less about Kabukicho nightlife and more about the fire trucks and ambulances screaming down Yasukuni-dori at all hours. If you get a room facing the inner courtyard you'll barely hear anything. Ask for one on the 7th floor or above and facing away from the main road. The 24 hour Don Quijote two blocks west is handy for cheap earplugs and a late night snack.

honestly the noise is more of a constant hum than a party. the real issue is the yakuza offices and the occasional drunk salaryman screaming at 3am, not clubs. i've stayed a block away and the double glazing does help a lot if you keep the window shut. earplugs are still a good call but you'll prob sleep fine if you're not on a super low floor facing the main strip. fwiw the morning crowd is worse, all those pachinko parlor speakers blasting at 7am

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
