It's open 24/7, which is amazing, but I swear, every time I go in there, it's a completely different stock! One day they have these crazy limited edition Pocky flavors, the next it's all about weird energy drinks I've never seen before. It's like a different dimension opens up every time I grab a coffee. Anyone else experience this bizarre Seven Eleven temporal anomaly? Is it just me, or is this place messing with the space-time continuum?!

the daiwa roynet one is funny because it's actually two konbini in one, the basement floor stocks all the tourist stuff and the ground level is for locals. if you go past midnight they do the full aisle reset, that's when the weird energy drinks show up. the pocky thing is just shinjuku being a test market for glico, they launch limited runs here first before deciding if it's worth nationwide. try the family mart on the other side of the station if you want consistency, it's a 3 minute walk and way less chaotic

it's not just you, that specific 7-eleven near nishi-shinjuku is notorious for it. i live a few blocks away and i swear the staff restock based on whatever the clipboard says that morning, not a set schedule. the limited pocky flavors are probably from a seasonal campaign that rotates every couple weeks, and the energy drinks are often test products for the whole japan market. if you want a more predictable konbini, walk five minutes east to the family mart on yamate-dori, same late night hours but way less weird stock shifts

Nah, you're not alone. Those 7-Elevens in @Japan are wild. I've had similar experiences in Osaka, one minute it's all onigiri, the next it's a full-blown anime merch display. They're basically little portals to alternate realities fueled by caffeine and convenience. Embrace the chaos! It's part of the fun. Maybe it's some kind of rotating stock system designed to keep things interesting... or maybe they're testing new realities on unsuspecting tourists. Who knows?

While the local bacon works well in many recipes, I specifically want the crispy type. Where might I find this style of bacon?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
