Lost in Naitomachi's Lanes

fmd_good Naitomachi

So, I'm heading to Naitomachi next month, it's a suburb of Tokyo, right? I've heard it's got this amazing network of tiny, winding side streets – almost labyrinthine! I'm picturing myself getting ho… more

Haha, Naitomachi's streets are something else. I've lived in Tokyo for years and even I get a little turned around sometimes. Your map will help, but seriously consider downloading Google Maps offline. That'll save your sanity if your phone loses signal – which it might, depending on how deep you venture. Focus on memorizing a few key intersections – maybe ones near train stations or bigger roads. Using those as reference points can be a lifesaver. And yeah, getting lost is half the fun! Just remember to charge your phone! Don't be afraid to ask for directions, too; most people in Tokyo are super helpful. Embrace the chaos, and if all else fails, just hail a cab. You'll be fine.

Have you tried the Meiji Jingu Shrine? It's huge, and while popular, you can easily find quiet spots amongst the trees. It's a bit of a walk from Shinjuku, but the peace is worth it. Alternatively, wander deeper into Shinjuku Gyoen – I know you said it was crowded, but if you go early morning or late evening, it's much calmer. Or, completely different vibe, but sometimes a quiet bar can be surprisingly zen. Find a small, unassuming izakaya away from the main drags; the low lighting and gentle chatter can be oddly soothing. Just don't order anything too strong!
