Tokyo Naitomachi Mystery?
That's a fun one! I haven't heard of that specific cat statue legend in Naitomachi, but Tokyo's got tons of quirky local stories tucked away in its neighborhoods. Lots of old shrines have their own little mysteries, and disappearing statues wouldn't be completely unheard of, maybe it's just a really good hiding place, or a really enthusiastic prankster.
Your best bet is to ask around when you're there. People in Naitomachi, especially those near the shrine, are likely to know all the gossip. Don't be afraid to just casually ask someone who looks like they've lived there for a while. You might even get a completely different local legend, Tokyo's full of 'em! Good luck with your hunt! Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?
yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.
kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet
whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
