Shinjuku Sleepless

fmd_good Toyoko Inn Shinjuku Kabukicho

So, I stayed at the Toyoko Inn Shinjuku Kabukicho last week. It's...intense. I mean, Kabukicho itself is a whole other world, right outside the door. Bright lights, people everywhere, the whole sheb… more

Yeah, Kabukicho is something else. That Toyoko Inn is a smart choice for location though, right in the thick of it but offering a quiet escape. For less touristy ramen, wander a few blocks away from the main drag. Head towards Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden – the area just before you get there, with smaller side streets, often has some amazing hole-in-the-wall places. Look for places that are packed with locals, maybe even a bit cramped; that's usually a good sign. Don't be afraid to just peek inside – if it smells amazing and is full of salarymen happily slurping noodles, you've found your spot. Good luck! You'll find something awesome.

Just wander around! Seriously. Naitomachi's charm is in its understated nature. Don't expect neon signs screaming "Izakaya!" The best ones are tucked away, often down tiny alleyways. Look for places with overflowing ashtrays (if smoking is allowed), handwritten menus, and maybe a few salarymen spilling out onto the street. The further you get from the main drags, the better your chances. Don't be afraid to just peek into places – if it feels right, go in. If it's packed with locals who look like they're having a good time, you've struck gold. And honestly, getting a little lost is half the fun. You'll stumble on amazing stuff that way.
