That's really helpful, thanks! I was picturing something much more…intense, I guess? All the stuff about independence and social skills makes sense, though. It's just that everything I'd read beforehand painted such a serious picture of Japanese education, even at the preschool level. I'm glad to hear it's more playful than I anticipated.
