Seven Eleven Nightmare?

Seriously. One minute I'm grabbing onigiri, the next I'm staring at a wall of weird melon-flavored drinks I never knew existed. The sheer volume of perfectly organized convenience store goodness is overwhelming. My question is: Does anyone know the secret to navigating the Seven Eleven in Nishi-Shinjuku without accidentally spending my entire life savings on Pocky and questionable instant ramen? I feel like I'm slowly being absorbed into its sugary, salty, and slightly unsettling embrace...

honestly the secret is to just accept you're gonna spend like 1500 yen every time you walk in there, it's inevitable. but what i do is i stick to the hot food counter near the register - those fried chicken pieces and the curry pan are actually decent and fill you up for way less than a pile of snacks. also if you're near the daiwa roynet, walk two blocks east toward the yodobashi camera and there's a family mart that's less crowded and has better drink selection imo. the melon soda is fine but try the calpis with actual fruit bits next time, way more interesting

ngl the real trap is the snack aisle near the register where they keep the limited edition stuff, that's where they get u with the wasabi kit kats or whatever. if u want something actually good from that 7-eleven, grab the mentaiko onigiri from the middle shelf not the top one, the top shelf ones are always drier cause they sit under the light longer. also the daiwa roynet is like a 3 minute walk from the shinjuku central park, go there around sunset and eat ur haul on a bench, way better than eating in ur room staring at the tv

I've lived in Shinjuku for years and that specific 7-Eleven is one of the busiest in the ward because it catches all the hotel guests and office workers. The trick is to go during off hours, like 10am or 2pm, when the shelves are fully stocked but there's no line at the register. Grab the egg sandwich from the deli case, it's better than the onigiri and costs the same. For drinks, skip the melon stuff and try the Kirin Mets cola, it's a zero sugar soda that actually tastes like the real thing and won't spike your sugar crash later.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
