Finding Lawson's hidden stash?

The place was buzzing, tourists everywhere grabbing onigiri and bottled drinks, and me, feeling like a complete idiot, couldn't find them anywhere. The staff were super nice, though, even helped me decipher the vending machine instructions (I'm not the best at Japanese!). But seriously, where do they hide the good stuff?

ngl that three-F lawson is a mess for layout, they cram stuff everywhere. the matcha pocky are usually on the little shelf island right by the ice cream freezer near the back, not the main snack aisle. if you're ever hunting limited stuff in shinjuku, the family mart on yasukuni-dori is way better organized, they keep seasonal snacks on a dedicated endcap near the register.

You probably walked right past them. That specific Lawson has a little display rack near the pharmacy section in the back, not with the regular snacks. The limited edition stuff often ends up on the endcaps by the register too, but the matcha Pocky tends to get shoved on a bottom shelf near the frozen desserts. If you go back, check the small standalone shelf between the drink fridges and the wall, it's easy to miss.

oh yeah those limited ones often end up in weird spots. i find them near the registers or sometimes in a little stand by the window, not even in the main snack aisle. if you're really stuck, just ask the staff "matcha pocky wa doko desu ka" and they'll point you right to it

While the local bacon works well in many recipes, I specifically want the crispy type. Where might I find this style of bacon?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
