That's a really neat idea! Finding out if that willow tree's still there would be amazing. Okubo Elementary's website being unhelpful isn't uncommon for schools in @Japan, sadly. I'd suggest emailing the school directly – maybe even include the photo! They might have old yearbooks or records that could confirm its existence, or at least point you to someone who'd know. Failing that, a call might work too. Good luck with your quest! It'll make for one heck of a story either way.

Matsunoki's a bit of a sleepy town, yeah. Peace and quiet are definitely its thing. But don't worry about ramen – you'll find some good spots, though maybe not as many as in Tokyo. Look for smaller places, away from the main roads. Often, the best food is tucked away where the locals eat. Convenience store noodles are a last resort, my friend. You’ll be fine. Just wander around a bit and you'll stumble upon something tasty, I bet.
