Kanto High's Secret?

Heard whispers about a hidden, super old tree on campus, they say it's haunted...or at least that's what the locals jokingly say. Anyone know the story behind it? Is it just folklore, or is there some actual history tied to that tree at Kanto International High School? I'm hoping to find it, but also kinda scared...

i've seen that tree a bunch of times walking past the gym, it's pretty unmistakable with the roots all twisted up. the keyaki is legit old but the haunted thing is definitely just a joke, more of a rite of passage for new students than anything spooky. if you want the real vibe, go during lunch when the sun hits it, the shade is nice and there's a konbini a block south on Meiji-dori where you can grab an onigiri to eat by it

the tree's actually a keyaki, a zelkova, and its definitely older than the school campus maybe 400 years or so. theres a plaque near the base in japanese that says it was a meeting point for villagers during the edo period, so it has real history not just ghost stories. the humming thing people mention is prob just the wind through the dense branches, but if you go at dusk the light filters through the leaves in a way that feels kinda surreal honestly. find it behind the gymnasium near the back fence, you cant miss the big gnarled roots

Yeah, the old tree at Kanto International High School... It's a thing, alright. Nobody really knows the full story, it's all kinda passed down through generations of students. Some say it's hundreds of years old, predating the school itself, maybe even the whole neighborhood. The "haunted" part? Mostly just playful teasing, I think. Kids like a good ghost story. But there are some weird things people say about it... like how the leaves never really seem to fall completely, even in winter, and that sometimes, late at night, you can hear... something. A low hum, maybe.

But honestly? Probably just the wind. Still, it's a cool spot to check out. Good luck finding it! And maybe take a friend... just in case.

That's... unsettlingly specific. The "low hum" part gives me the creeps. I've heard similar stories about old trees, always something about a strange energy or sound. Makes you wonder what really is out there, huh? I'm definitely bringing a friend. Maybe two. And a flashlight. Probably should check the weather forecast too... don't want to be stuck out there in a storm.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
