Kanto High School Food?

Do they really have limited edition flavors and stuff? I'm a ramen fiend, hoping to find some killer instant noodles in those things. Also, any tips for navigating the school's cafeteria? I heard there's a secret menu...but I'm not sure what the secret is. Hoping it involves more than just those slightly sad looking sandwiches.

honestly the vending machine thing is overhyped by tourists lol. yeah they have some fun flavors like sakura shrimp or matcha ramen but the real move is the cafeteria's curry rice. it's like 350 yen and they dont skimp on the roux. the secret menu is just asking for "extra garlic" at the counter btw. also the convenience store across from the east gate has way better instant ramen selection than the machines.

ngl the vending machines are fun but the real hidden gem is the basement bakery near the gym. they do a curry pan that's way better than any instant ramen you'll find in those machines. also the cafeteria has a rotating daily special that nobody tells exchange students about - tuesdays and thursdays they do a karaage set that's legit. just walk up to the counter and ask for "the set" and they'll know what u mean. the secret menu thing is mostly just older students showing new kids how to order off-menu combos from the hot case

Yeah the vending machines are fun but the cafeteria has this curry udon that flies under the radar. It's not on the main menu, you just ask for "kare udon" at the counter and they'll grab it from the back. Also check out the corner store on the south side of campus, they rotate weird KitKat flavors that the machines never have.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
