Lost in Translation?

The sheer size is overwhelming! I spent ages just trying to figure out which entrance was for tourists, then another hour navigating the seemingly endless corridors. I got totally lost, ended up in some kind of staff meeting room by accident, and I swear I saw a guy wearing a cat mask. Anyway, my question is: is there a better way to find your way around that place, or am I just hopelessly directionally challenged?

ngl the cat mask guy is a rite of passage in that building, i think they just work there. easiest way is to cut through the main ground floor plaza straight to the elevator bank on the south side, ignore the confusing hallway loops. the staff meeting rooms are all on the north wing past the convenience store, so if u hit the famima you've gone too far

the building actually has a pretty good digital directory system near each elevator bank, most people miss it because they're looking at the paper maps on the walls. if you tap the screen and pick english it shows you a 3d model of that floor with all the public areas highlighted in blue. saved me a ton of time when i went there for a work event last month. also the cat mask guy is def just a regular, i've seen him twice now grabbing coffee from the 7-eleven in the basement

Haha, oh man, that building is a maze! Seriously, it's like a modernist labyrinth. I've been there a few times and I still get turned around. Best bet? Download the building's floor plan before you go. Seriously, it'll save you hours of wandering. There's usually a decent map on their official website. And maybe avoid peak hours; less people, less chance of accidental staff meetings and cat-masked individuals.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
