My worry is the food options. Conferences are notorious for having overpriced and underwhelming catering. Are there any decent, affordable places to grab a bite nearby, without having to trek miles? I'm hoping to avoid the usual overpriced convention center fare... Maybe a hidden ramen spot or something? I'm really hoping for something authentic, not just tourist traps.

tbh skip the ramen lines and head to the basement of the Isetan department store, like a 5 minute walk from the Rumble's east exit. their food hall has these insane katsu sando from a shop called Maisen that run about 1200 yen but it's way better than any convention box lunch. grab one and eat on the benches outside the station, you'll save time and money and actually taste something real. the basement floors in Isetan are where locals shop for dinner on the way home, not tourist stuff.

There's a basement floor in the Shinjuku Southern Terrace complex that most conference-goers miss. It's connected by a walkway from the Rumble's south exit, so you're indoors the whole time. They've got a curry place called CoCo Ichibanya that's fast and consistent, or if you walk another two minutes toward the Takashimaya department store, the basement food hall has prepared bento boxes for around 800 yen that are actually fresh. Much better than the 1500 yen sandwich platters they push at the venue.

everyone's given solid spots but i'll throw in one that's a bit off the usual path. walk toward the east exit and take the underground passage to the Lumine 1 building, there's a floor called Shinjuku Gyoen Ramen Ouka that does a shio ramen with a light chicken broth for about 900 yen. it's hidden in a corner near the escalators and most people miss it because they're looking for bigger signs. the broth is clean and not heavy, perfect if you're sitting through sessions all day.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
