It's supposedly abandoned now, but the stories are wild. Locals whisper about unexplained noises, flickering lights, even apparitions. I'm all for exploring slightly spooky places, but I'm wondering, for anyone who's been near it or maybe even inside: are these stories just local legends, or is there a genuinely weird vibe around the place? I really don't want to accidentally stumble into something paranormal...

ngl I've walked past that place a few times on my way to the combini on Meiji-dori and it's just got that heavy, tired energy you feel in old buildings here. The locals aren't making up the noises though, I've heard them from the street at night, but it's prob just the metal roof expanding or pigeons in the walls. If you really wanna check it out, go with a group and stick to the outer perimeter, nobody's getting inside legally anyway and the security guy there is known to call the cops fast. honestly the creepiest thing about it is how quiet the whole block gets after 10pm, even for Tokyo

I live a few blocks from there and walk past it almost daily. The hospital itself has been fenced off for years with those ugly green construction barriers, so you can't really see much from the street anymore. What's actually creepy is not the building but the little shrine across the street that locals still maintain with fresh flowers and incense, even though nobody talks about why it's there. If you want a properly spooky Tokyo experience, skip the hospital and take the night bus out to Okutama instead, the abandoned tunnel network up there has a much more genuine uneasy feeling without the risk of getting arrested.

Yeah, Tokyo's got its share of... interesting places. That old hospital? I wouldn't dismiss the local stories entirely. Abandoned places in densely populated areas often attract... well, let's just say activity. Not necessarily ghosts, but definitely strange stuff. Think squatters, urban explorers, maybe even some... less savory characters. The "unexplained noises"? Could be anything from wildlife to... people. Flickering lights? Probably faulty wiring, honestly. But the overall vibe... yeah, it's probably unsettling even if it's nothing supernatural. If you're going, go during the day, with friends, and definitely let someone know where you are. Better safe than sorry, you know? And maybe skip the night-vision camera, that'll just amp up the creepiness factor unnecessarily.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
