It's at that Tokyo Credit Association branch. The email was kinda vague about the actual office location within the building, and my Japanese is... well, let's just say it's conversational at best. I'm worried about getting hopelessly lost trying to find the right floor and then being late. Anyone have any tips for navigating those sprawling office buildings in @Japan? Or any experiences with that particular branch?

ngl the trick with those shinjuku office buildings is the elevator situation. some of them have separate banks for low and high floors and if u get in the wrong one u gotta go back to the lobby. the tokyo credit association branch is in that building with the starbucks on the ground floor near the west exit, the directory is right by the escalators not the main entrance. if ur lost just go to the 7-eleven in the basement and ask the staff, they usually know which floor stuff is on

The Tokyo Credit Association branch in Shinjuku is actually one of the smaller ones, tucked into that older building near the west exit. If you enter from the main street side, the directory board is just past the lobby elevators and it's in Japanese only, but the floor numbers are clear. Take a photo of the email with the floor number on your phone and show it to the security guy at the front desk, they deal with lost foreigners all the time and will point you to the right elevator bank. Give yourself an extra 20 minutes to navigate the underground passages, those connect half the west side and can spit you out three blocks from where you think you are.

yeah the shinjuku west exit buildings are a maze but that specific branch is easier than most. the building has two entrances, use the one facing the odakyu department store not the one by the bus stop. once you're inside the directory board is actually digital with an english toggle button bottom left, most people miss it. also the 4th floor has two different hallways split by a fire door, the credit association is in the south wing so go right after the elevator

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
