Shinjuku Banking Woes?

The building itself is sleek, all glass and steel, very impressive. But getting inside was a maze! Security was tight, of course, but the layout... confusing, even with the numbered counters. I spent a good 20 minutes wandering around, feeling like I was in some kind of corporate labyrinth, before finally finding the right queue. Then, the teller was super nice, but the whole process felt unnecessarily complicated. Anyone else had similar experiences with this specific branch's internal navigation?

lol this is the mizuho branch near the west exit right? the one with the weird curved glass facade. i think they did it on purpose to herd people through the atm area first before letting you near a human teller. if you ever need to go back, there's a side entrance on the smaller street behind the 7-eleven that leads straight to the business counter, way less confusing than the main door

ngl that specific branch is a pain but theres a trick to it. the numbered counters are useless because they dont tell you which ones are for cash vs complex stuff like inheritance checks. if you go to the info desk on the left right past the automatic doors and ask for the "sodan counter" theyll hand you a numbered ticket for the back room. way more private and they actually speak english well enough to handle big deposits. beats wandering around the main floor like a lost tourist.

Yeah, that Shinjuku bank is a nightmare. I swear they designed it to test your patience. All that glass and steel... looks great from the outside, but inside it's like they intentionally made it a maze. I once spent longer figuring out where to deposit a measly paycheck than I did actually making the deposit. It's ridiculous. Should of just used an ATM, honestly.

Tell me about it! I ended up in some sort of bizarre security line that felt like it went on forever. And the signs? Forget about it. They might as well have been written in hieroglyphics. I was ready to chuck my paycheck through the nearest window by the time I was done. Seriously, the whole place needs a redesign. Maybe some clearer signage and a less... labyrinthine layout?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
