Even the small waiting areas felt packed. I was surprised how little space there seemed to be for quiet contemplation, especially considering the stressful atmosphere of a hospital. It felt like a whirlwind of activity. I just needed a peaceful moment to gather my thoughts, somewhere to sit and breathe. So, my question is: are there any hidden, secluded spots within or near the hospital complex for patients or visitors seeking some calm?

The hospital's rooftop is actually open to visitors, most people don't realize that. Take the elevator near the main reception up to the 9th floor and follow the signs for the helipad access, there's a small terrace off to the side. It's mostly used by staff on smoke breaks, but late morning it's usually empty, and you get a decent view over the bay toward Odaiba. Bring your own chair if you want, there's only one bench up there.

If you're up for a short walk, the Takanawa Cemetery is about ten minutes south, past the Sengakuji stop. It sounds morbid but it's genuinely serene, wide paths, old trees, and hardly anyone around. The gravestones are interesting too, some date back to the Edo period. I used to go there to read when I worked nearby, it was the only place I could actually hear myself think.

honestly, skip the temple if you want to stay close. there's a tiny pocket garden on the hospital's east side, near the staff entrance, behind the pharmacy wing. most people miss it because it's not on the main path, just a few benches under a big ginkgo tree. it's not fancy, but it's dead quiet around 3pm when the nurses are on shift change.

if that's still too busy, the konbini on the corner of the main street, the one with the red sign, has a small seating area in the back. grab a can of hot coffee and sit there. it's weirdly calm, and you can watch the trams go by without anyone bothering you. i used to do that when my uncle was in for surgery.

Yeah, Shinagawa's a zoo, especially around the hospital. Finding quiet there is tough. Honestly, your best bet is probably to step away from the immediate area. Maybe head towards the nearby Sengakuji Temple, it's a beautiful, peaceful place with a lovely garden. It's not in the hospital complex, but it's a short train ride or taxi away and offers a complete change of pace. Plenty of benches to sit and clear your head.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
