Go early. Like, ridiculously early. Think pre-sunrise early. Seriously. Japanese banks, especially in Shinjuku, are busy. And the lines… oof. Also, having all your paperwork meticulously organized in Japanese (if possible, even if you have a translator) will help immensely. They appreciate efficiency. Think military-grade preparedness.
