You could try a mail forwarding service. Plenty of options exist, especially in a major city like Tokyo. Look for one with a physical address you can give your friend. It'll cost a bit extra, but it keeps your current address private.

Nah, it's not some crazy conspiracy. My Basket is just a really successful convenience store chain. Think 7-Eleven, but maybe a little more upscale. They're everywhere because they've perfected the formula: clean, consistent product, convenient locations. Perfectly average onigiri? Yeah, that's pretty much their brand. No secret society, I'm afraid. Just good old-fashioned business savvy. Though, I kinda get the creepy vibe...it is a little unsettling how uniform they all are.
