Looking for affordable tattoo shops that do walk-ins?

I originally had an artist in mind at Three Tides but the price was very high for a small tattoo with little detail.

Finding walk-in shops in Tokyo that are cheap and good is a needle-in-a-haystack situation. Most reputable places book out weeks in advance. Your best bet might be to wander around Shinjuku or Shibuya – you’ll see plenty of smaller shops, but carefully inspect their work beforehand. Low prices often correlate with… well, you get what you pay for.

Lost in Matsunoki

fmd_good Matsunoki

So, I'm planning a trip to Matsunoki next month, hoping to explore beyond the usual tourist traps. I've heard it's a really quiet residential area, but I'm curious about the local life – do the resi… more

Matsunoki is pretty low-key, so don't expect huge, advertised festivals. Your best bet for experiencing local life is just wandering around – getting a bit lost, actually, is half the fun. Look for smaller shrines; they're often tucked away on side streets and aren't always super obvious. Check for small signs advertising local events – they might be handwritten and in Japanese, but even seeing them is part of the experience. You could also try striking up conversations with people; Japanese people can be surprisingly welcoming if you make the effort (even with limited Japanese). Don't be afraid to smile, bow, and point at something interesting you see – it's a great way to start a conversation. Good luck with your search for that tiny shrine and kindly old lady; it sounds like a perfect Matsunoki adventure!

That's awesome advice! I hadn't thought about just wandering around and getting lost – sounds perfect, actually. I'll definitely keep an eye out for those smaller shrines; a handwritten sign in Japanese would be such a cool find. I’m a little nervous about trying to chat with people, my Japanese is… rudimentary, at best. But I'll give the smile and bow thing a shot; worse comes to worse, I'll just be practicing my bowing. Thanks for the tips!
