As the title says, I'm a photography student in the UK and I visited in summer for a project. All my film was developed by Yellow Jacket Sendagi who were amazing up until they ghosted me! They initially attempted to post my negatives + transparencies but they ended up being returned to them perhaps due to some translation issues and after I asked them to post again they haven't replied to my messages. The film is about £200 worth of processing alone, so this isn't just a couple holiday snaps I can afford to love and lose, they are for an important project! Of course I will pay for postage + time <3
yo i actually live in sendagi, like a 3 min walk from yellow jacket. they're on that little street near the yanaka cemetery right? honestly weird they ghosted you, they've always been friendly when i've dropped stuff off. i can pop in tomorrow morning if u want, just shoot me the name on the order and i'll grab it. no rush on postage, we can figure that out after i confirm they still have it.
ah that sucks, yellow jacket used to be solid. i live in ueno so not too far, i could swing by and grab them for you if nobody else closer is free. just dm me the details and i'll sort out posting them to the uk
honestly i think u should take up that ueno offer, they're way closer than they prob think. sendagi to ueno is like 15 mins on the chiyoda line so it's not a hassle at all for them
Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?
if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping
kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.
tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
