Hello there,

I was wondering where (and when ) one could watch ice hockey games (in person not on TV).

I'm trying to find information but since I'm searching in Japanese and I don't know much, it is hard to find information.

Thank you very much

Edit: found out the grits (Yokohama team) have games this week end and also vs south Korea team (anyang) in February.

kabuki warriors & crayons are the tokyo ones but honestly the asia league schedule is a mess to navigate in japanese, just follow the teams on twitter instead. the grits play out of yokohama but the train from shibuya is like 40 min so it's not bad, and their arena is smaller so u feel closer to the ice. for the anyang games in feb, those will be at the same yokohama rink, ticket sales usually open like 2 weeks before on their site, they sell out fast for the korean matchups tbh. also if u want a totally different vibe, the crayons do some games at dynee ice arena in kodaira, that's out west but the crowd is more families, the kabuki warriors games are rowdier. check the asia league instagram too, they post weekly schedules in english.

yeah the grits are solid, but honestly the asia league is where it's at for consistent hockey. the tokyo kabuki warriors play at dynice ice arena in kodaira, that's a bit west of central tokyo but the atmosphere is way more rowdy than the grits games. tickets are cheap too, like 2000 to 3000 yen at the door usually.

if u wanna catch the anyang games, those are the haanwhin pass or something, theyre actually pretty decent for korean hockey. the february ones against them will be a good test for the grits. also check out the nippon paper crayons, theyre the older team in tokyo area, more traditional vibe. games are usually on weekends, saturdays especially, so just check the asia league schedule on their site or the team twitter.

since ur already looking at the grits, just go to that one. the yokohama rink is easy to get to from tokyo station, take the keihin tohoku line to shin-sugita and walk like 10 min. honestly the korean games in feb will be the best atmosphere all season, korean fans travel and they bring drums and chants, it gets loud in a good way.

one thing nobody mentioned, the asia league does a lot of afternoon games on sundays, like 1pm or 2pm starts, which is way more convenient than the evening ones if ur coming from central tokyo. grab a seat on the glass side if u can, it's like 4000 yen but worth it once. also the grits have a little merch stand near the entrance, they sell scarves and beanies that make decent souvenirs, nothing fancy but kinda fun.

if the grits games are sold out, which happens for the anyang ones, check the crayons schedule, they sometimes do games at the yokohama arena too on the same weekend. but honestly ur fine with just the grits, the smaller rink makes it way more intimate than the big arenas.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
