Hii. Im looking to train MMA. I want to primarily focus on my wrestling and Boxing so a MMA gym that also prioritises this as well and not just Jui jitsu and kickboxing.

Which gym would you recommend? Iv head tribe Tokyo MMA is good ? And there's another one called tribe Tokyo MMA north ?

Thanks! 😃.

honestly both tribe locations are solid but if you're really tryna focus on wrestling and boxing i'd say check out the north one first. the main tribe in shinjuku is good but their schedule has more bjj and kickboxing days compared to north which runs wrestling drills twice a week.

masters grappling in shinjuku is worth looking at too, they've got separate boxing classes that are pretty legit and the mma classes there mix in takedown work from a wrestling base. just fyi their boxing coach used to train out of the higashi-nakano gym so he knows his stuff.

if you're near suidobashi area, try lions den tokyo. they've got a former university wrestler teaching their takedown classes and the boxing coach there has a pro background. it's smaller than tribe but the classes stay small so you get more hands on correction.

if you're serious about wrestling and boxing specifically, try carpe diem tokyo in mitaka. they've got a former collegiate wrestler running their takedown sessions and the boxing coach trained in thailand so it's more technical than most mma gyms here. it's a bit out of the way but the classes are smaller and you'll actually get hands-on corrections instead of just drilling in a crowd. the vibe is more old-school training too which i prefer

yeah tribe tokyo north is probably ur best bet for more wrestling focus, the head coach there has a solid wrestling background and they run specific drilling classes for it. the main tribe location is good too but it's more gi jiu-jitsu heavy. if u want boxing specifically i'd also look at masters grappling in shinjuku, they've got a legit boxing coach who does separate sessions and their mma classes mix in takedown work pretty regularly. just check their schedule online first since some classes fill up fast

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
