I believe you can pay a few hundred yen per month over the course of a year or two for various chairs / beds / desks / sofas / drawers / shelves etc.

I believe the items are delivered, you play a flat fee each month. Then they remove the furniture when your contract is done?

Curious if anyone has actually tried it AND what happens at the end of your term. Does Muji actually come back to the apartment to take it away?

Seems like a wonderful way to avoid dealing with figuring out how to get rid of furniture if you have a short term lease.

honestly it worked fine for me, i had a desk and a chair for about 14 months. the pickup was smooth, they came on a weekday afternoon and packed it up in like 20 minutes. just make sure you keep the original boxes if you can, they asked for them for the chair legs and it was a hassle finding them.

one thing nobody mentions is that the rental period is strict, you cant extend month-to-month after the contract ends. if you need an extra two weeks you're kinda stuck paying for another full month or buying the stuff outright. plan your move-out date carefully or be ready to buy.

i did it for a year, it's pretty straightforward. the monthly fee varies a lot depending on what you pick, like a basic shelf is way cheaper than a sofa. they delivered everything on time and the pickup at the end was easy, just scheduled it online a week before i moved out. one thing to note is you can't swap items mid-contract without a penalty, so plan your setup from the start.

Yeah I did it for about 18 months. They definitely come pick everything up when you're done, you just book a slot online. The stuff is decent quality too, not like those cheap rental sets.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
