What now shibuya ?

Now that the ban has officialy started, where's the new spot for drinking in the streets ? Now that the ban has officialy started, where's the new spot for drinking in the streets ?

people are mostly just drifting down towards meguro or over to the park along the shibuya river, the stretch between shibuya bridge and naka-meguro has benches and less foot traffic. cops do occasional sweeps but they're way more relaxed than the station area. grab a highball can from the famima on the corner by the river and just walk it, nobody bothers u

ngl the backstreets around nonbei-yokocho are still fine if you're not being obnoxious about it. grab a bottle from the liquor mountain on meiji-dori and just post up on the steps near the old shimbashi tracks, cops mostly ignore small groups there. the real move is just being subtle about it, no music, no shouting, and they leave you alone

honestly people are just spreading out, not really one spot yet. shibuya station's east side around miyashita park draws less heat than center-gai, but cops still cruise through. i've been hitting up the benches near yoyogi-hachiman station, quieter and konbini nearby for restocking. tbh the whole thing made me realize how nice it is to just grab a can and chill at a random 7-eleven parking lot without the crowd noise

Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
