yeah what they said, but if you're here on a thursday, the English improv night at Pink Cow in Shibuya is a hidden gem. it's less stand-up, more games and crowd stuff, super low pressure and funny even if some performers are shaky. also, check the facebook group "tokyo english comedy" closer to your dates, people sell last minute tickets there for like 500 yen sometimes. oh and bring cash, most small venues dont take cards.

honestly the english comedy scene here is small but tight. if you're fine with a mix of local and expat comedians, check out the Stand Up Tokyo nights at Good Heavens in Shibuya, they run most weekends. tickets are cheap, like 1500 yen, and the crowd is usually half tourists half locals who speak english, so it's not weird.

also keep an eye on the Tokyo Comedy Bar in Shinjuku, they do open mics on tuesdays that are super hit or miss but fun to watch. if u want something more curated, the "Gaijin Comedy" shows at various venues pop up on eventbrite, just search a week before u land. avoid the big name international acts that tour through, they're overpriced and the audience is mostly tourists, imo the smaller rooms are where the actual good stuff happens.

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
