Hey an Aussie here looking for a sports pub or bar or similar to watch the games over the weekend at.

We ideally want to watch it somewhere than buy the heavily overpriced watch afl pass.

Afl = Australian football league "Aussie rules"

Thanks in advance.

The Hobgoblin in Shibuya is another option that usually has the games on. It's a British-style pub a few minutes walk from Shibuya Scramble, and the staff are pretty good about putting on whatever sports you ask for if they have a free screen. The beer selection is better than most places in the area, though you're looking at around 900 yen for a pint of their own stuff. It's less chaotic than the Footy Bar if you want to actually follow the play.

honestly just go to the Footy Bar in Shibuya, it's basically the go-to spot for aussies during finals. the hub in shinjuku sometimes has it on too if you're closer to that area but the vibe's way more generic

head to the footy bar in shibuya, it's on the 2nd floor near the station's hachiko exit. they show all the afl finals live and the crowd's usually a mix of aussies and kiwis, gets pretty rowdy during the big games. drinks are standard tokyo prices so like 700-800 yen for a beer, not cheap but way better than that afl pass nonsense. if it's packed try the hub in roppongi, they'll have it on too but less atmosphere

While the local bacon works well in many recipes, I specifically want the crispy type. Where might I find this style of bacon?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
