Best places to eat Izayaka style until after 12?

One thing I've noted is that most places close early which is surprising. Can you recommend any places near Shinjuku that just let you drink a few beers and some decent food? yeah golden gai's fun but not great for food. if you want actual izakaya food past midnight, try shinjuku nakamise-dori area, there's a bunch of tiny spots tucked away that don't really show up on google maps. i stumbled into one called "ushi no" or something near the seibu shinjuku station exit, they had killer grilled skewers and stayed open til 2am. just wander off the main drag and look for places with locals coming out drunk

honestly most of the izakaya in the golden gai area stay open way past midnight, but they're tiny and not really about food. for actual drinking with decent food that late, check out torikizoku near shinjuku station. it's a chain but they're open till 3am or later, everything is 360 yen per item, and their yakitori is solid for the price. another option is the omoide yokocho alley, some of the tiny yakitori places there will serve you until 2am if you're not being annoying. just avoid the tourist traps that close at 11

The ones in the basement of the Shinjuku NS Building are a good bet. There's a place called Uoshin that does solid seafood izakaya food and they're usually open until 1 or 2am depending on the night. It's a bit of a walk from the station but you won't be fighting through crowds of tourists. Another option is to head toward Kabukicho and look for the multi-tenant izakaya buildings near the Don Quijote, some of those floors stay open late and you can just wander in.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
