Hey everyone!

I'm stuck in a crazy situation, where I forgot my phone in Beijing airport during a connecting flight. It was found by the staff and dropped at the Lost and Found.

From here you'd think "Great, problem solved" right?

Believe it or not, they won't ship my phone because it's a sensitive item.

Then you'd think, just ask your airlines, they can probably help. Indeed, my friend had the same thing happened to him, and the airline was able to take his wallet in the next flight, easy.

But believe it or not, Air China refuses to take the phone onboard because it's a hazard for them as it might contains drugs or illegal things inside.

Anyway, now my phone is sort of stuck forever in the Lost and Found of Beijing Airport.

I'm flighting to Tokyo tomorrow and will be there until the 28th so this is my last chance to find someone that can maybe help me transfer the lost phone from the Lost and found of Beijing to the Lost and found of Tokyo..?

If you know anyone or have any tips for me, I'd be very grateful.

there's a guy named kenji who runs a small courier service out of okachimachi that handles weird china-japan transfers, he's on the tokyo chinatown wechat group and has done phone pickups before. also you could try the japan post office at tokyo station, they have a specific counter for fragile electronics that might bend the rules if you explain it's already cleared security in beijing. the real hack is offering to pay someone on the beijing-tokyo shuttle bus at the airport, those drivers sometimes do favors for a few thousand yen

man that's a rough spot. i'd try hitting up some expat wechat groups or the tokyo lost & found at haneda or narita directly, sometimes they have informal arrangements. also check if there's a courier service like jp post that does international phone shipping from beijing, some of the smaller shops near akihabara might know a workaround. worst case, ask a friend to fly it over with a cheap peach or jetstar ticket, those are usually under ten thousand yen if booked right.

ah that's brutal. if you're on any wechat groups for beijing expats or tokyo residents, post there with the exact details and offer a small reward, someone flying through narita or haneda might grab it for you. also hit up the japan post office near shinjuku when you arrive, they sometimes have a service for shipping phones from china to their tokyo hub if you fill out a customs form saying it's a personal device. worst case, check with the lost and found at narita terminal 1, they've dealt with this before and might have a contact at beijing airport's security office that can push it through

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
