It can be a hiking trail(that allows mtb of course) as long there is an elevation. Thanks!

yeah Ota is rough for quick MTB access, the closest decent descent without going all the way to Tanzawa is the course up on Mount Takao's back side near the Kobotoke Shiroyama trail. It's not huge elevation maybe 300m of drop but it's flowy and legal for bikes, you can take the Keio line to Takaosanguchi then pedal up the paved road toward the summit and drop down the fire road on the east side toward Sagamiko. Weekday mornings are chill but weekends it's a zoo with hikers so go early or accept a lot of braking

Honestly, if you're in Ota, the quickest spot with some actual vert is the trail system on Mount Oyama. It's a bit of a grind to get up but the descent off the backside toward Isehara is pretty fun, just take the Odakyu to Isehara station and bus to the trailhead. It's a proper hike-a-bike on the way up but the downhill is worth it if you don't mind carrying your bike for a bit

You're a bit far from the good stuff in Ota. The closest real trails with descent are up in the Tanzawa area, around Lake Miyagase. You can take the Odakyu Line to Hon-Atsugi and then bus up to the trailheads there, it's about 90 minutes door to door.

For hiking trails that allow bikes, look into the network around Mount Takao and the adjacent Jimba. The "downhill" side off Jimba toward Sagamiko has some fun, flowy singletrack that's legal for MTBs. Just watch out for hikers on weekends, it gets crowded early.

Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
