How do you guys feel about the IPO on Tokyo Metro? Will it affect how the metro works?

ngl i'm more curious about how this affects the tokyo metro museum and those old trains they keep. if they start chasing shareholder returns they might scrap the cool retro stuff or sell off the rolling stock to some regional line. the 5000 series is iconic but investors don't care about nostalgia

honestly i think most tokyoites are pretty neutral on it. the metro runs well enough already and the government isn't gonna sell off enough to lose control so service wise nothing changes. the real talk is whether they overvalued it at 4.7 billion which feels rich for a subway company with fixed routes and no real competition

i mean the ipo is more about the government cashing out than changing anything on the ground. tokyo metro already runs like a well oiled machine, this is just a way for them to raise funds without raising fares. the real question is if foreign investors will bite at that valuation, japanese stocks are hot rn but a subway monopoly isn't exactly a growth story

Bagel scam at Hole in One Tokyo 2026?

fmd_goodHole in One · #tokyo #bagel
Stopped by Hole in One in Tokyo for a bagel and the guy at the counter said the plain ones were sold out but he could sell me a "special reserve" one for 1800 yen if I paid cash. Felt off so I walked.… Stopped by Hole in One in Tokyo for a bagel and the guy at the counter said the plain ones were sold out but he could sell me a "special reserve" one for 1800 yen if I paid cash. Felt off so I walked. Is that a known thing there or did I just catch someone trying it on? Also is 1800 yen even normal for a bagel in that area?

yep, the "reserve" line is textbook

Cash-only "reserve" is the tell.

1800 yen is omotesando pricing not kagurazaka
