Anyone got photos of the epic thunderstorm last night?

Sidequest: what are the best hashtags to look for on social media?

Thank you guys!

i was out in shinjuku when it hit, couldn't see much either tbh the rain was just a wall. check #tokyostorm or #tokyothunder on twitter, people in minato always get the best lightning shots from their balconies. there's a few in the tokyo storm chasers facebook group too if you're on there

ngl the shibuya scramble crossing cam footage from last night is prob the best thing i've seen, the rain was coming down so hard it looked like a waterfall over the buildings. someone clipped it and put it on youtube, just search "shibuya storm august 2024" should pop up

for hashtags skip the english ones honestly, go with #東京雷雨 or #夕立東京 on twitter, the japanese weather otakus post the clearest shots with those. also check the 渋谷 tag on flickr if you want the raw high res stuff, the camera nerds always upload there before instagram

Caught a few solid ones from my friend's place in Azabu Juban, the lightning was hitting right over Tokyo Tower and the contrast against the dark sky looked almost fake. For hashtags I'd add #stormtokyo and #kaminari (that's thunder in Japanese) since the local weather accounts repost the best ones with those tags. Also check the #東京ゲリラ豪雨 tag if you want the really dramatic street flooding shots from last night.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
