Housing options for a few months?

Are there any options besides airbnb? And in case anyone has neighborhood recommendations. I'm mid 20s, skateboard like local music and cozy/dive bars (not a fan of all night raves) any help is appreciated thanks!

honestly for a few months in tokyo id skip both share houses and weekly mansions and look into guest houses with longer stay options. places like toco in yanaka or nui in kuramae have dorm beds or private rooms that let you book monthly and theyre full of other travelers and remote workers your age. yanaka is old tokyo with tiny bars and skateable streets while kuramae has that warehouse vibe and a solid little music scene. monthly rate at a guest house is usually 50,000-70,000 yen for a dorm and you get access to a common room where youll meet people who actually know the good spots

yeah share houses are the move for sure, but also check out weekly mansions (shuukaku mansion) they're basically furnished apartments you rent by the week or month without all the fees. for your vibe tho i'd look at kichijoji or ogikubo instead of shimokitazawa, little less touristy and more of that real neighborhood feel with great dive bars tucked under train tracks or in basements

koenji is solid too especially if you want to skate around the station and hit the punk shows at the live houses there. a weekly mansion in ogikubo will run you about 70,000-90,000 yen a month and you get your own bathroom and kitchen which is nice if you want to cook instead of eating convenience store food every night

You're smart to skip the apartment hunt for just a few months - the guarantee fees and key money alone would eat your savings. Look into share houses, specifically ones run by Oakhouse or Borderless House. They're set up for short stays, usually furnished, and you pay month to month without the typical Japanese landlord drama. A lot of them are in Shimokitazawa or Koenji which would be perfect for you, both are stacked with live music venues and those tiny standing bars where the owner remembers your drink after two visits. Expect to pay around 80,000 to 120,000 yen a month depending on the room size and location.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
