I live in Tokyo, but a Japanese family is visiting me and requested I make a reservation at a restaurant. Looking for advice near Shinbashi Station for a place that would be suitable for two Japanese kids as well?

For what it's worth I live in Shinagawa, I'm just fresh off the boat (well I've been here a year) with very poor Japanese ability and am not sure about a reasonable thing to do in my situation.

A Japanese co-worker of my father and his family are going to be in Tokyo (they live in Eastern Japan) with his wife and two young children (10ish age?). They requested I make a reservation for dinner (there will be six people total) somewhere "nice" near Shinbashi Station.

I realize I'm likely overthinking this but because it's a co-worker of my fathers, and because I know very little about what might be appropriate for a Japanese family with children in terms of restaurant type, I was hoping for some advice (or ideally specific recommendations, I'm not really familiar with the area around Shinbashi station). It would also be nice / important if we were able to casually enjoy a conversation / chat at a table, where conversation is fairly easy (e.g. likely not a tiny ramen restaurant where you're sitting in a row or whatever).

It would be ideal if I could make a reservation on tablelog or similar, just on account of my lack of Japanese, but I'm also happy to go in or call.

I'm guessing something nicer but not really expensive would be ideal, e.g. ¥2000-~¥3000 per person seems reasonable to me, somewhere around there.

If this is downvoted to hell (which to be clear I understand!) I might try my luck in /r/japanlife (pray for me) and just ask what sort of restaurant is a good choice for a family with kids.

honestly for that budget and with kids near shinbashi, try katsukura or katsuhama for tonkatsu. both are chains but decent quality, have private-ish booths, and kids usually like the whole breading and sauce situation. you can book through tabelog easily, they handle the reservation system in english fine

if you want something more local, gonpachi in the nishi-shinbashi area does izakaya food with tatami rooms you can reserve. it's a bit more lively but still fine for conversation, and the kids can pick at different small plates. expect around 2500-3500 per person depending on drinks

for a quieter option, uoshinogura does good kaisendon and has a proper table setup, not counter seating. they're used to families and the fish is fresh, runs about 2500 for a set. just note they close a bit early around 9pm so book an early slot

I'd skip the typical tourist spots and try Sushi Zanmai near Shinbashi station. It's a chain but not the cheap kind, they have proper table seating on the second floor and the quality is consistent. For two kids around 10, the set meals run about 2000-2800 yen and they can order individual pieces if they're picky. The staff there are used to foreigners and you can book through their website in English, just request a table not the counter.

If sushi isn't their thing, there's a good shabu-shabu place called Imahan just a 3 minute walk from the JR ticket gate. They have private rooms you can reserve and the all-you-can-eat course runs about 3000 yen per person. Kids love cooking the meat themselves at the table and the noise level is low enough for conversation. Make sure to book at least a week ahead though, that place fills up fast with local office workers.

yeah for that budget and with kids, i'd check out shinbashi enbujo area there's a bunch of family-friendly spots. try maruichi for yakitori, it's got tables not counter and kids dig the skewers. prob around 2500-3000 per person and you can book on tabelog no problem. just don't go too late since young families tend to eat earlier here

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
