I am currently abroad and will return on the 24th, does anyone have any similar experience or know how long they will hold the package?

It was sent via JP post Yuu pack

Thank you

If you have the tracking number, you can check the delivery status on the JP Post website and it will tell you the last day you can pick it up. They usually hold it at the counter for 10 days from the first delivery attempt, not counting Sundays and holidays, so the exact date can shift a bit.

Since you're abroad, you can also set up a redelivery request online through the JP Post site if you know someone who can be home to receive it. The form is in English and you just need the tracking number and the slip number from the notice card.

yeah you're probably fine timing wise but just a heads up if it's a bigger post office they sometimes hold things a bit longer than the smaller ones. the shinjuku or tokyo central ones are more flexible in my experience.

also worth checking if they left a redelivery slip in your mailbox at home, if you have a neighbour or building manager who can check for you. the slip has the exact pickup deadline printed on it in japanese.

JP Post usually holds Yuu Pack for about 7 days from first delivery attempt. After that they send a notice card and hold it at the post office for another 7 days, so total 2 weeks from arrival. Since you're back on the 24th you should be fine if it arrived this week or early next week.

If you're worried, you can ask a friend to take your ID and the notice card to the post office to pick it up for you. Or call the post office directly, they speak basic English and can tell you the exact hold date. The number should be on the tracking page.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
