I have a spouse visa that I applied to renew on May 10.

It's now July 10 and I haven't received the post card yet with my result.

My visa expired June 2nd, so I am currently on my grace period.

Has anyone else had this long a wait, or got their result already that applied after May 10?

Should I go to the Shinagawa office and ask directly? If so where do I go and would they just give me the visa there if the post card ended up being lost?

I tried calling but line is always busy.

Appreciate any help, getting anxious over this.

two months is pretty standard at shinagawa, especially around golden week when everything backs up. you could try going to the oshima office instead, it's usually less crowded and they handle renewals too, just take the yurikamome line from shimbashi to telecom center station and it's a 5 min walk. if you do go to shinagawa for inquiries, head to the first floor south side where the general info counter is, they'll give you a number for the second floor visa section but honestly they won't do much unless it's been over 3 months

honestly dont stress too much, two months is pretty normal for shinagawa right now. i applied mid april and got my postcard exactly 2 months and 3 days later. if u want to check in person, go to the second floor visa section around 10am on a weekday, theres a window for "inquiries about pending applications" on the left side near the back. bring your receipt and old zairyu card, but they prob wont give u the new card on the spot unless the postcard was actually mailed and lost. also if u havent already, try calling at exactly 8am when the line opens, i got through on my third try that way.

fwiw my friend was in the exact same spot last month, she went to the immigration bureau in shinagawa and they told her the card was actually ready but the postcard just never arrived. so it happens. she went to the first floor info desk first, they gave her a ticket for the second floor and she got the visa same day. just bring your passport and receipt. worst case they tell u to wait longer

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
