In Tokyo this week. Was thinking about getting a suit tailored but not sure if it's worth it, especially if I lose weight when I'm back in my home city (Perth, Australia).

Does Japanese craftsmanship warrant getting a suit tailored here and then making adjustments back in Perth later on? Or should I just wait until I lose weight before getting a suit tailored (which would have to be in Perth since I'm only in Tokyo this week).

Please let me know.

imo you should just wait. even the best tailors in Tokyo like the ones in Aoyama or Ginza need multiple fittings over weeks. you don't have time for that in a week anyway unless you're paying for rush fees which prob aren't worth it

the weight loss thing is real too. I've seen friends get nice suits made here then lose 5-10kg and they just sit in the closet. recutting a suit later is way more expensive than just waiting

if you really want something japanese from this trip get a pair of dress shoes instead. there's a place called Isetan Men's in Shinjuku that has some incredible shoemakers. shoes don't care about your weight changes the way a suit does

yeah i'd skip the full suit for now. weight loss changes your shoulders and chest enough that even a good tailor in Perth would have to basically rebuild it. not worth the premium you'd pay in Ginza or Marunouchi

if you want something japanese-made while you're here though, get a shirt from Kamakura Shirts in Shinjuku or Ginza. they do ready-to-wear that fits surprisingly well and costs like 8000-12000 yen. much easier to take in later if you lose weight and you still get that japanese fabric quality

perth tailors are fine for when you're ready btw. just grab a nice tie or some fabric swatches as a souvenir for now

honestly if you're planning to lose weight i'd wait. suiting is all about the fit and even the best tokyo tailor cant account for future weight loss. you'd just be paying a premium for something you'll need to recut anyway

if you really want something japanese-made while you're here, skip the full suit and grab a nice shirt or tie from Ginza or a specialty shop like Kamakura Shirts instead. way easier to adjust later and you get that craftsmanship without the headache

perth has some solid tailors too btw. no need to rush this just because you're in Tokyo for a week

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
