I recently moved back to Tokyo and iso of a gym in the area I live in. I live in Sangenjaya and my choices are between anytime and asuwell.

what's your experience so far at anytime fitness that you go to? You like it? if you changed the gym to somewhere else how so?

Also if you are an anytime user and down to be gym buddies in Sangenjaya, hmu!

I've been going to the Sangenjaya Anytime for about six months now, and it's fine if you just want to lift and leave. The main issue is it's in that basement spot near the station, so it can feel a bit cramped when more than a few people are on the floor. I've heard Asuwell has a proper changing room and towel service, which Anytime doesn't offer at all.

If you're planning to go during peak hours, I'd lean toward Asuwell just for the space. But if you're flexible and can go late at night or early morning, Anytime does the job for the basic price.

i go to the one near shimo-takaido, not sangenjaya but close enough. honestly it's fine for the price, like 8k a month or whatever. the equipment is decent but it gets packed right after work like 6-8pm, so i go early mornings instead. if you're near sangenjaya station tho, asuwell might be better cause it's less crowded and has a sauna, which anytime doesn't.

the staff at my branch are chill, never bothered me. just don't expect any classes or extras, it's barebones. for the location tho, i'd prob pick asuwell if i were you, the sangenjaya anytime is kinda small from what i heard.

ngl i've been going to the shibuya branch for a year cause it's closer to my office and i'd say the network is the main selling point. being able to use any location in tokyo is nice if u travel around or have a weird commute. sangenjaya's anytime is def on the smaller side tho, i've been once and it's like 3 benches and a few machines in that basement.

asuwell is locally owned right? i think it's like 9k a month which is slightly more but you get the sauna and it's way less crowded. if you're mostly gonna be in sangenjaya i'd prob go there tbh. the anytime near you is convenient for late night but that's about it.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
