Is the museum the best place to shop for these types of figurines. I have one friend who wants me to buy a maneki-neko and was curious if there is a sailor moon style maneki-neko. Any shop recommendations would be helpful.

yeah the museum is more for looking than buying. if you're in shibuya, the loft store there has a small sailor moon section with some exclusive stuff you won't find in akihabara. for the maneki-neko, check the secondhand shops in harajuku like komehyo or book off super bazaar, i've seen random sailor moon crossover figures pop up there for way cheaper than nakano

honestly skip the museum for shopping, it's more of a viewing thing. for sailor moon merch i'd hit up animate in ikebukuro instead of akihabara, their selection is usually better organized and they have a whole corner for it. the sailor moon maneki-neko is super rare nowadays, but if you're willing to settle there's a gacha machine near the exit of nakano broadway that cycles through sailor moon stuff pretty often, saw a cat one there last month

The Sailor Moon museum exhibit is more about the art and history of the series, not really a shop for figurines. You'll find better merch at the big anime stores in Akihabara - K-Books and Lashinbang both have dedicated Sailor Moon sections with plenty of figures. As for the maneki-neko, there was a limited edition Sailor Moon x maneki-neko figure released years ago, but it's rare and expensive now. Your best bet for finding one on short notice is Mandarake in Nakano Broadway, they usually have the most niche vintage anime goods.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
