From what I understand it's burnable garbage, but is there anywhere that would recycle it? TIA!

honestly unless it's labeled with a plastic recycling symbol (the little number in a triangle) it's prob just burnable. daiso stuff almost never has it. you could check with your ward's resource recovery center but most of them won't take mixed plastic bags like that.

if you want to cut down on waste next time, some daiso locations have a "mottai na" section where they sell loose items without packaging, or you can bring your own small containers to the bulk bins at places like kaldi or bio c'bon. not perfect but helps a bit.

yeah it's pretty much all burnable unfortunately. if you really want to recycle, some wards have a "plastic resource" collection day but it's super strict - only rigid plastics with that symbol, not the flimsy bags. you could wash and reuse them for trash liners or give them to a local shop that collects plastic bags for recycling, like some Aeon stores have bins near the entrance.

tbh if it's just thin plastic film from daiso, recycling facilities in tokyo will laugh at you. most wards have a strict "no film" policy at the回收 station. you'd need to wash it and separate by type which takes forever and they still might reject it.

Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
