As some of you saw I was searching for a proper lebanese shawarma in Tokyo and a few suggestions were provided.

I called and confirmed that Salam in Shibuya doesnt make a proper one

I also went to Byblos and they did not make a proper shawarma (no garlic sauce, french fries or pickled turnip - pic in comments)

Thus unfortunately there is no authentic lebanese shawarma in Tokyo and likely Japan.

If anyone wants to start a restaurant with send a DM as my one is still better than any kebab

That's a bummer about Byblos, I've heard the same thing from a few people. It's a nice enough sit-down spot but definitely not what you're after.

There's a place in Kagurazaka called Kebab Box that does a decent job with the wrap, but it's more Turkish-style than Lebanese. They do put fries in it though, which is rare here. Not sure if they have the pink turnips.

You might have better luck looking for Syrian or Iraqi places, they tend to get closer to that garlic sauce and pickle combo. There's one in Okubo called Aladdin that's worth a shot, though I haven't tried their shawarma specifically.

yeah the lebanese shawarma scene here is basically nonexistent, tried the same hunt a few years back. byblos is good for a meal but def not what ur after.

there's a spot in takadanobaba called bab al yemen that does a yemeni mandi plate, not shawarma but the garlic sauce and pickles hit that same vibe. also check out the small halal butcher shops in okubo, some of them do wraps on the side that no one talks about online.

honestly if ur shawarma is better than most kebabs here u might have a market, the closest i've found to a proper lebanese style is at a place in ikebukuro called sultan, run by a syrian family. no pink turnips but the garlic sauce is legit.

Kebab Box is Turkish style but honestly that's as close as you'll get here. The Syrian places in Okubo are your best bet for the garlic sauce.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
