I spend a lot of my time in Tokyo and I often find myself needed a cafe break or a drink. My go to is coffee, but I don't drink caffeine as it does not sit well with me. But the only places I've found that do decaf are mainly Starbucks, blue bottle, and a few other chains, but going to the same few every day can get really boring. Does anyone have any recommendations for cafes / coffee shops with decaf? I would love non chain recs as well if possible!

you could try about life in uehara, they're more of a natural foods store but their cafe counter does a solid decaf pour over and the seating is actually pretty comfortable for hanging out. also worth checking out fuglen tokyo in yoyogi, they always have a decaf option on their filter menu and the coffee is solid, plus you get that vintage furniture vibe. if you're near nakameguro, onibus coffee usually has a decaf bean in rotation and their shop is tiny but the staff are nice about explaining what they've got. i've also had luck at nozy coffee in jiyugaoka, they rotate their decaf selection and the pour over is consistently good, just ask at the counter what they're brewing

Most specialty shops in Tokyo will have decaf if you ask, even if it's not on the menu. I'd try about-life in Uehara, they usually have a single-origin decaf option and the space is great for working. Fuglen in Tomigaya also does one, though it's a smaller cup and they switch beans often. If you're near Shimokitazawa, Bear Pond is worth checking out -- their decaf is solid but they're a bit particular about how they serve it.

tbh a lot of the smaller roasters in tokyo are pretty good about decaf if you just ask. i'd suggest looking at the local roasters in your neighborhood, a lot of them will do a decaf pour over even if it's not listed. like near me in yanaka, iroha coffee on yanaka ginza will pull a decaf shot if you ask, they're more of a kissaten style place so it's a different vibe than the third wave spots

if you're ever around ekoda, cafe countach is a tiny place that does a decent decaf latte and the owner roasts his own beans, he usually has one or two decaf options in rotation. it's kind of hard to find but worth it for the quiet, there's like 4 seats max

also worth mentioning that a lot of the bigger department store basement food halls like isetan or takashimaya have little cafe counters that will do decaf, not the most exciting but it's an option when you're stuck in shinjuku or shibuya and don't wanna walk 20 min for coffee

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
