Does anyone find the fried butter thing that they show in JR lines video appealing?

It's not unusual to come across some kind of dessert in Japan that is made to be visually stunning, but as soon as you think about it a bit, it doesn't taste that good.

This fried butter is the first time that I immediately considered something appaling.

Few days ago I started seeing this video of butter fried in cake batter in JR lines in Tokyo. It feels like it's supposed to be one of those visually stunning desserts, but this time the idea of eating half melted butter, then having to smell it for the rest of the day is just no. Especially as you can still see half of the butter has not melted.

Is anyone out there who would love to eat such thing?

honestly i've seen that ad too and it's not even a real thing you can buy at any station I know of. it's just some viral marketing gimmick for JR's summer campaign or whatever. if you want something fried and sweet that's actually good, grab a korokke from a shop near Ueno station instead, way better use of 150 yen

Yeah, I've seen those ads and honestly the thought of biting into a chunk of hot, greasy butter just sounds like a stomach ache waiting to happen. I think it's more for the shock value on camera than something people actually enjoy eating.

ngl that fried butter thing looks like a nightmare to actually eat in public. i've seen those JR ads too and it's pure gimmick marketing - like the melon pan ice cream sandwiches they push in summer, looks cool on camera but melts everywhere in 2 minutes. if you want something fried that's actually worth it, hit up the kushikatsu places in shinjuku's omoide yokocho, they do a mean cheese-filled one for like 200 yen that doesn't leave u smelling like a deep fryer all day

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
